The Importance of Family Portraits

Thousands of family photographs are taken every day with little regard to the meaning of the photograph. But when asked, what is the first thing you would rescue from your home (besides your loved ones and pets) if your house catches fire?  Most people say their photo albums.  Family photo albums are some of the most important objects to us.  They are tangible evidence of family history and should be passed down through generations.

Family photographs often prompt people to talk about family stories, goals, events and history.  They remind people of good times with loved ones.  They are moments frozen in time that describes your family.  A picture tells a story just as well as a large amount of descriptive text.  Much like family storytelling, photographs indicate relationships within and among the family.  Family photos definitely tell a story.  They are tangible evidence of family history and should be cherished, treasured, and passed down through the generations.  They are moments in time that describe you and those around you, your individual personalities, and your family dynamics.

We frequently don’t realize the importance of family pictures until it is too late.  Often we find ourselves seeking out pictures of memories with a person after he or she is no longer around.  Naturally, we look to our photographs to help us remember the good times.  These photos are the ones that will put smiles on our faces and help us cope with the change of a person no longer nearby.  Preserving and displaying these memories can also be a good way to remind oneself what to be thankful for, and to never under appreciate the joy that family and friends can bring to ones life.  Photographing the family shows some sort of adoration. What better way to show those around you the importance of your family and how much family means to you.

Yes, thousands of photographs are taken every day.  Family portraits have great meaning.  They are precious.  Precious to the family and those that will treasure them later.  Every family is different and has different kinds of relationships.  It can be so rewarding to capture these family relationships in a photo.  Because we are not immortal there will be a time when all those we love will no longer be with us. But a beautiful family portrait can serve as a reminder of the love and bonds that exist between family members.  Family portraits will hang in a home for years, and then become a family heirloom. They are evidence that your family did exist, and can be passed down through future generations.  Have a family portrait done.  You will not regret doing it.
